An earlier BHS starting time is being considered for the 1990-91 school year, according to school officials. The proposal, which was discussed at a school board meeting Tuesday, would move the start time for high school students from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Problems with working parents and transportation issues due to poor weather, officials said, have to be addressed, especially as many students take the bus.

Bus routes, school bus drivers, and cafeteria schedules require a staggering amount of elementary and secondary starting times to be coordinated. The proposal would also affect the start times for middle and elementary schools, though the specific changes for those levels have not yet been determined. The school board is expected to make a final decision on the matter by the end of the month.

A new twist on a classic tradition is coming to the high school this spring. The upcoming Sadie Hawkins dance will feature a new version of the event, designed to be more inclusive and fun for all students. One of the task is taking a group, is looking for more people that would be interested.

The cost of the trip is about $1500. This includes airfare, breakfasts and dinners, hotel, and sightseeing tour. Flight has the transport. The amount of money required is around $400, including [unclear].

The trip is open to students and seniors.

Drawing for limousine to head at fashion show

A fresh Pro-Spring fashion show will be held at Cohen's on March 7.

Students may register for three hours in advance. Anyone on Prohm, April 11. The drawing will be held at 8:30 p.m. and need to be present in advance.

This fashion show is sponsored by the ladies of the school and includes some of the latest styles from spring wear. All proceeds will benefit BIS students.

What used to be a grand occasion--Prom--now consists of cruising around, grabbing a bite, catch-your-breath dancing, and after that, I won't say what.

Last year, I attended Prom, with some of the trimmings. No rented limo, new dress, or reservations to the Orion room though.

I expected a night to remember. A nice dinner in a quiet restaurant. And at the dance, people talking to each other and slow dancing like you see in movies.

First, my date (I'll call him Jon) came to pick me up. He shook my father's hand and greeted the rest of the people in my livingroom. There was a big turnout that night--family and friends.

I tried to pin Jon's boutonierre--a white rose--on.

Naturally, I stuck him. My mom's friend ended up pinning it on. Jon thanked her.

As we were getting into the car, I climbed into the passenger side and put on my seatbelt like usual. My father, the traditionalist, wanted us to do it the "right" way so he could take a picture. He made me get out and had Jon open the door for me. (He continued to do it for over a month after Prom and still does occasionally by the way.)

Off we went to the River Inn restaurant in Big Lake.

Our waitress seated us in the middle (how romantic) of a crowded room. No one was under 40.

Jon, still in a gentleman-like mood, pulled out my chair and pushed it in after I sat down. Behind me I distinctly heard a woman say, "Oh. Aren't they cute." Ugh.

We were walking toward the exit an hour later when a man in his 50's patted Jon on the back and said, "I like to see young people being chivalrous. Good job," referring to the chair trick. We laughed most of the way to Rolling Green in Hamel.

The dance was--okay. A little noisy and fast-paced maybe, but we had privacy. No one spoke to us.

The 7-up Sunrises I suggested we get and Jon ordered while I sat at the table were great though.

Overall, it was a night to remember. I had a good time and realized that the Prom isn't a Cinderella affair, even though I had a Prince Charming to dance with.
